Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission Plans To Generate 8,800 MW By 2030

ISLAMABAD (26th Apr, 2018 ): Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) has planned to generate 8,800 MW electricity through nuclear power plants by year 2030. According to the Economic Survey of pakistan released by Advisor to the Prime MinisterMiftah Ismail here Thursday, construction of K-2/K-3 is the first major step in this regard and the PAEC is planning to develop additional sites to house more nuclear power plants in future with the sites identified throughout the Household Commercial Industry.

KANUPP, the oldest of the nuclear power plants, has now completed 46 years of safe and successful operation. C-4 was formally inaugurated by the Prime Minister on September 8th, 2017. Two more nuclear power plants at Karachi, Karachi Nuclear power plants units (K-2 and K-3) are also under construction. All operating units at Chashma are amongst the best performers in the country in terms of endurance and availability.

32 ton (BP) Tugboat handed over to Pakistan Navy

Karachi: ( May 23, 2018) Vice Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Kaleem Shaukat was the chief guest at the handing over ceremony held at KS&EW in Karachi, which was attended among others by high ranking officials from government, Pakistan Navy, Corporate Sector and the shipyard.

“The 32 Tons  Bollard Pull (BP) Tug has a 34 meter overall length with displacement of 481 tons. It has maximum speed of 12 knots and propelled by 2 x Diesel Engines and same number of Azimuth Thrusters. It is fitted with a very robust fendering arrangement for all round tugging operation of almost all sizes of ships and crafts of Pakistan Navy,” said a press release issued here. Vice Admiral Kaleem Shaukat said it was indeed a clear manifestation of the vision of Pakistan Navy to pursue self-reliance in the field of ship construction.

Earlier MD KS&EW, Rear Admiral Syed Hasan Nasir Shah, in his welcome address, thanked Pakistan Navy and the Ministry of Defence Production for their continued support. He said that no foreign assistance had been sought for this project as it had been completed with self-sufficiency in all phases of construction. He briefed about the ongoing shipbuilding and ship-repair activities at KS&EW. Presently, he said, the KS&EW was undertaking 6 x shipbuilding projects.

Pakistan to buy 30 of Turkey’s homegrown T129 ATAK helicopters

Ankara and Islamabad have signed a deal for the sale of 30 Turkish attack helicopters, according to an election manifesto the ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Party) announced. In a November 2017 interview with the Anadolu Agency, Pakistani Minister for Defense Production Rana Tanveer Hussain said his country planned to procure 30 attack helicopters and four naval ships from Turkey.

On March 23, T129 ATAK helicopters from Turkey participated in a fly-past ceremony in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad. ATAK helicopters, one of the most remarkable products of the national and original production model in the defense industry, have also paved the way for exports with its outstanding performance. Ongoing talks with Pakistan on the export of ATAK helicopters have had positive results.

T129 ATAK helicopters equipped with up to 76 unguided rockets and 20 mm guns with 500 mm ammunition capacity for close air support missions, ATAK helicopters also feature eight long-range anti-tank missiles (UMTAS), 16 CIRIT laser guided missiles, eight Stinger air-to-air missiles for multi-purpose tasks, cutting-edge electronic warfare and electro-optical systems.

Indian P.M. Modi inaugurates controversial Kishanganga Dam, Pakistan protests

SRINAGAR: (MAY 19, 2018 BY AGENCIES)

 Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated a hydroelectric power plant in the state of Jammu and Kashmir, amid protests from Pakistan which says the project violates the Indus Water Treaty (IWT) and will disrupt water flow to the country.

Pakistan has opposed some of the Indian projects, saying they violate a World Bank-mediated treaty [IWT] on the sharing of the Indus river and its tributaries upon which 80 percent of its irrigated agriculture depends.

Furthermore, it has also sent a high-level delegation to the United States, seeking an intervention of the World Bank against the construction of the controversial 330 MW hydropower project in the occupied valley. “The delegation led by  Attorney General Ashtar Ausaf will demand of the WB to constitute an international court of arbitration and will relay its concerns over the matter.

“Pakistan is seriously concerned about the inauguration (of the Kishanganga plant),” the foreign ministry had said in a statement. “Pakistan believes that the inauguration of the project without the resolution of the dispute is tantamount to violation of the IWT.”

Terrorists attack Frontier Corps facility in Quetta 

17 May 2018 : Quetta was saved from a major disaster after security forces foiled a major terrorist attack on Thursday night, killing all five suicide bombers who tried to storm a Frontier Corps (FC) compound in the city. The first suicide bomber detonated an explosive-laden vehicle outside the centre’s gate. Subsequently, four more terrorists wearing suicide vests tried to enter the Help Centre, but were challenged by security personnel manning the gate. At least eight security personnel were injured in the attack .The outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) terrorist group claimed responsibility for the brazen attack.

Pakistan’s legend hockey goalkeeper Mansoor Ahmed passes away

KARACHI (12 May 2018) : Pakistan’s World Cup-winning hockey goalkeeper Mansoor Ahmed passed away at a hospital here on Saturday 12 May . The 49-year-old had been suffering for weeks from complications stemming from a pacemaker and stents implanted in his heart, and had reached out to India for help in securing a heart transplant. He was put on ventilator, but didn’t survive since his heart was functioning with only 20 per cent efficiency. Mansoor had represented Pakistan in 338 international hockey games between 1986 and 2000. He also captained the Pakistan team for a short time. The government of Pakistan had reportedly offered Mansoor a mechanical heart transplantation which, had he accepted, would have been the first time the procedure was to be conducted in Pakistan. However, the hockey legend had wanted a more conventional and proven procedure, for which he had wanted to go to India and had thus refused the offer. Mansoor has been a sporting icon in Pakistan since helping the country win the 1994 World Cup in Sydney with his penalty stroke save against the Netherlands in the final.

Mansoor participated in three Olympics and various other high-profile events in a career spanning over 14 years. In addition to being named the world’s best goalkeeper on four occasions, Mansoor was bestowed with a presidential award in 1988 and the Pride of Performance in 1994.

Pakistani girl among 10 killed in Texas shooting

With graduation just days away, Santa Fe High School in the US state of Texas becomes latest casualty

Pakistani girl Sabika Shaikh was one of ten people gunned down by an armed teenager at Santa Fe High School in Texas, US. On Friday morning, before they could cross that finish line, the deepest fears of every American teacher, parent and student once again came true. This time, the school is named Santa Fe High School.

Around 7:30 a.m., a 17-year-old  named Dimitrios Pagourtzis, armed with a shotgun and a .38-caliber revolver he’d taken from his father, opened fire, killing 10 people  mostly students  and wounding 10 others at the school. 17-year-old Dmitrios Pagourtzis had also apparently brought homemade explosives to the school, including a “CO2 device,” a Molotov cocktail and “various other devices. Recalling the attack on ABC television´s “Good Morning America,” student Trenton Beazely said the shooter “was playing music, making jokes, had slogans and rhymes he kept saying.”

Sabika Sheikh killed in US school shooting laid to rest in Karachi

23rd  May:  A number of government officials and political leaders, including Sindh Chief Minister Murad Shah, Sindh Governer Muhammad Zubair, Sindh Home Minister Sohail Anwar Siyal, Pak Sarzameen Party chief Mustafa Kamal, Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s (PTI) Halim Adil Sheikh and others attended her funeral prayers. She was laid to rest at the Azimpura graveyard in Shah Faisal Colony.

At least 100+ dead  from heatstroke in Karachi as temperature hits 44c

KARACHI  According to Faisal Edhi, 114 bodies were brought to the Edhi Foundation’s morgues in Karachi’s Korangi and Sohrab Goth areas in the past few days. Most of the citizens who died from heatstroke were residents of Landhi and Korangi, he added.

He said that most heatstroke victims had died at their home. The ages of people who succumbed to the ongoing heatwave in Karachi varied from six to 78 years. “People did not get medical help on time, which resulted in their death,” he said. He said major deaths occurred in Korangi where a large number of labourers work.
