On Tuesday 14 November 2017, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC), General Zubair Mahmood Hayat said India’s premier intelligence agency, Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW) operates a cell to sabotage the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
The four-star artillery-General said this while addressing a seminar in Islamabad.” RAW established a new cell with a special allocation of over $500 million in 2015 to sabotage CPEC projects in Pakistan.” General Hayat talked at length about Indian involvement in anti-Pakistan activities. He said that Delhi is stoking up trouble inside Pakistan by bolstering groups like the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and sub-nationalist groups in Balochistan.”India’s indirect interference in Pakistan is manifested in sponsoring Tehreek-i-Taliban-Pakistan, Baloch and other sub-nationalist outfits and many other terrorist groups,” he added.
General Zubair also alluded to the reason why peace has eluded the region. Bringing his experiences in military strategy and diplomacy to the table, General Hayat further expounded upon the nefarious role played by India. He asserted:” India has set up a Balochistan operational cell under RAW to devise a radical force for subversion and terrorist activities in the province.”
Thereafter, the senior-most officer in the Pakistani armed forces said that India is playing with fire as it is ratcheting up the threats perceptions. “I believe India continues to engage Pakistan through an asymmetric strategy and ploys.
It is even making an endeavor to subsume conventional methods, such as surgical strikes phantom or otherwise into the realm of sub-conventional war,” General Hayat said while adding that “India’s growing [military] force and 80 percent Pakistan-centric force potential” has raised chances of an Armageddon. Tensions between both countries continue to flare up. Festering bilateral disputes have now become a part of the changing geopolitical landscape in the region. The even otherwise strained relations between the arch-rivals are all set to be given fresh impetus by high power politics and gimmickries in the region.
The four-star artillery-General said this while addressing a seminar in Islamabad.” RAW established a new cell with a special allocation of over $500 million in 2015 to sabotage CPEC projects” The mammoth CPEC, by virtue of its salience to the One Belt One Road initiative, has come into direct conflict with the US and India. Both countries are fast-becoming strategic partners in a bid to counter the burgeoning clout of China in the region and beyond.
Watchers are mindful that India and Pakistan will add on to the reasons of continuing their rivalries. Besides, the age-old stumbling blocks will continue to mar peace in the region. General Zubair also alluded to the reason why peace has eluded the region. He said that the road to peace leads to Kashmir; efforts to circumvent the issue is an anathema to a peaceful South Asia.
