Pakistan is faced with severe political crisis as the ruling political party Pakistan Muslim League, PML (N) and Pakistan Tehreek-I-Insaf fight it out with each other all in the name of public interest. The dispute started with Imran Khan’s call to close down Islamabad on Wednesday 02nd November 2016 as Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his government, were not making significant progress towards oppositions demand for a probe in the matter of Panama leaks. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s family was accused, in Panama leaks, of owning offshore companies which were created for the purpose of tax evasion and transfer of Pakistan’s money to foreign companies. These leaks created a serious global crisis and resulted in the downfall of Prime minister of Britain and Ice land, among other political leaders around the world. In the matter of Panama leaks opposition leaders including PPP leadership demanded an independent probe. The delay caused by government in addressing this issue resulted in agitation against the government, which was fueled by the matter of daily Dawn Leaks. Dawn Newspaper published an exclusive story on 6th October 2016, which highlighted a serious rift between the civilian government and the military leadership and serious breach of national security. In his story a narrative has been discussed that aheated discussion took place between the civilian leadership which Pakistan has always denied, and that such behavior may result in the isolation of Pakistan. This news was immediately denied by the government; however, this does not stop it from being a matter of breach of National Security. Pakistan has remained very open about its stance against all terrorist, ever since the launch of Operation Zarb-e-Azb. As a result of this non discriminatory policy Pakistan has been able to make phenomenal progress against terrorism and has seen a visible decline in terrorism at a time when the world is witnessing a considerable rise in extremist activities. Furthermore, this news article seems to resonate the false Indian claim of isolating Pakistan. Although this meeting and all news relating to it has been denied by the government, the editor of Dawn Newspaper maintains that this news was verified by credible authorities. This news leak has created a severe rift between the civilian government and the top military brass who view it no less than an act of treason because such false news help no one but the enemies of Pakistan. So far, this matter is far from being resolved there are many unresolved questions such as: false or true, who is responsible for such a serious lapse and why is it that these claims seem very similar to the lies uttered by Indian Prime Minister Modi. These matters collectively have resulted in serious political turmoil.
These matters are further being escalated by the PML-N government’s reaction to PTI’s protest. It seems that the government is forming a country with in a country by sealing off Punjab completely so that no one can enter the province or reach the Federal capital from Khayber Pakhtoon Khawa province. This is a non democratic measure as protest is the basic right of every citizen in a democratic country, and stopping anyone from exercising this right with the use of brute force is nothing short of dictatorial tyranny. It is highly advised that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif should reconsider the measures taken by his government and that of the Punjab government as this will not do them more harm than good. Also, these actions are going against the well being of the state as they may result in a rift between provincial government of Khyber Pakhtunkhuwa and the Federal government which in the light of 18th amendment may prove to be detrimental for the existence of Pakistan. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will be well advised to refrain from such extreme measures as he stands to lose everything in this situation.
